You can get the student version for free if you sign in as a student at Autodesk (it doesnt matter if you go to school or not)Īutodesk also allows you to get a whole bunch of art programs for free so id check it out!īut they do have limits due to being on a student licence, but not much. Personally I wouldn't buy it without testing it. If you are good at painting traditionally, I believe that sketchbook pro would be easy to understand, but because I'm horrible at traditional art its not so friendly for me. Tho I do draw in a cartoony style that is highly digital rather than "natural" which is the effect that sketchbook brings, for example, Paint tool SAI has a line stabilizer which makes drawing smooth lines super easy, thus good for thick lined cartoons, however Sketchbook does not use a stabilizer which means you actually have to put effort into detailed line art of which I'm not all that interested in. I am using the student version, so some tools are limited, but with what ive tried i dont like the painting side of sketchbook pro. Sure I've seen so many people create paintings from sketchbook pro, but for me it feels too odd to use it, you cant change the brush tip all that much and it can become blocky. So drawing for fun, concept sketches, layout drafts and all the sketchy type stuff you would expect to draw in a sketchbook is what sketchbook pro is perfect for (as its name suggests.) It allows you to draw symmetrically as well and other tools like rulers etc I have sketchbook pro, and as its name suggests its perfect for sketching because it works just like paper!
